Welcome July

This odd, but cool plant, Monotropa uniflora finally appeared, weeks later than in 2010.

Ghost Plant / Indian Pipe

This morning pale stems pushed up through dead leaves and dropped rhododendron flowers to welcome July. The frogs were plentiful and voicing their approval while two painted turtles stretched their necks skyward on a fallen tree. I also got a lively series of images of the rabbit in action. (More about MA rabbits.) The loveliness of this day cancelled out the drug baggies, cigar and candy wrappers I picked up.

[Still, the increasing volume of plastic bottles and trash in the water demonstrates how the city ‘cherishes’ its natural resources. I can’t help but think this has contributed to the absence of wood ducks (and other ducks) that bred here in years past.]
