Chick mortality

On Thursday, 12 May, my daughter and I saw the first Canada Goose chicks. Six little fuzzies were carefully kept between momma and poppa as they glided on the big pond. In the week that followed, if we spotted youngsters at all, it was difficult to get a count. Sunday 20 May, the goose family grazed in the wet grass…with only 4 chicks. Today (26 May), 2 young were visible at the water’s edge. No other pairs seem to have bred.
